Frequently Asked Questions

Helpful Information

Who should I bring?

Our classes are designed for you and your partner or birth partner. You are also free to come on your own, and we will ensure you do not feel left out if you do.

What are the class sizes?

Classes will be a minimum of six, and a maximum of 12 couples.

How much do they cost?

Each class is priced at £275. That is for twelve hours when including the postnatal get together, which is less than £12 an hour if two people attend.

How do you compare to other companies?

We appreciate that you have choices, and our competitors do an amazing job, so will not make direct comparisons.
What sets us apart is our doctorally trained registered midwife instructors, our philosophy of information over a preference for one type of parenting choice, and our commitment to fun and relaxed teaching

Do you provide class materials?

Yes, each couple is provided with a printed booklet, printed on recycled paper, with all of the pertinent information included. This includes notes pages for you to note important things for you. If you would rather an electronic copy for environmental reasons, you can indicate this in the booking form.

My family is unusual - is that ok?

Of course it is! The Parenting Posse is an inclusive company that welcomes all. We do not accept discrimination on any grounds, whether that be race, sex, sexuality, disability, or gender identity. If we ever get any language wrong, please let us know as we are always open to learning.
If you require specific access help then inform us at booking so we can accommodate.
If you would like to tell us about your family make up so we can ensure any adaptations are made, please feel free

This is a new company, yet you already have testimonials - how come?

The testimonials come from classes that James has previously provided before the creation of The Parenting Posse. It was these that inspired him to set up the company.

Which class shall I book?

We want you to join a posse that is at a similar stage to you so pick one where the first class will occur when you are between 30 and 34 weeks pregnant. Remember that 'term' is anywhere from 37 weeks onwards, so an earlier class may be better if you are unsure.

What if I need to miss a class?

Life happens, we get that. If you have booked a class and are unable to attend then we will provide you with high-quality recordings of the lessons included. However, as a large portion of the Parenting Posse philosophy is to make friends, try to avoid this wherever possible. If one of you can attend a certain class, but the other cannot, feel free to come solo and we will make sure you're looked after!

Why do you have time allocated without partners present?

We have found that couples have questions they would like to ask without their partner present. This can be physical - such as questions related to the first poo after having a baby, or perineal trauma - and psychological - such as how best to support someone in labour. But it is also an important opportunity to form the supportive posse - the birthing person has different needs from a group to the supportive person, so having time alone is useful.
It is in no way mandatory, and you may chose not to involve yourself in these sessions. We have found, for example, that sometimes same-sex couples would rather not separate.

Will there be refreshments?

Oh yes! Hot and cold drinks will be provided alongside a yummy collection of cakes and biscuits to keep your brains going

Can I speak to my group before the classes?

Yes - a week before your first class you will be invited to join a WhatsApp group specifically made for your posse. This helps you communicate with the group and arrange meets and chat as you would like. James will not be a member of this group, unless he needs to nip in to make an announcement, then he will leave straight away.
